our team

CF Design was founded in 1998 by its principal, Cheryl Fosdick. During its existence, the firm has designed more than 100 new homes and remodels. Most of our work is regional and specific to the Midwest and the Upper Great Lakes, and is rural, suburban, and urban, with our new built work generally tending to reflect a modern aesthetic.

Cheryl Fosdick

M.Arch, Assoc. AIA

Cheryl concentrates on residential new projects and remodeling, with over 100 built and “in progress” works throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Her work is particularly attentive to energy and spatial efficiency, as well as material clarity, simplicity and sympathy with the building site and context. Prior to her current practice, she was co-principal and owner of Salmela Fosdick, Ltd. Her firm’s work was based in a strong sense of regionalism. Their second project for the State of Minnesota was the Gooseberry Falls Visitor Center, completed in 1996 and an AIA Honor Award winner in 1997, with two additions using the guidance of their work completed in 1999 and 2001. That project, along with many others in her portfolio, recalled formal historic precedent and modern sensibilities, and incorporated extensive use of recycled locally sourced materials in an open and functional plan. Cheryl has been awarded 2 other AIAMN Honor Awards.

Joseph Krumpelmann

B. ARCH, LICENSED ARCHITECT STATE OF MN, AIA, LEED AP

For thirty years, Joe has been working on both large and small-scale projects. Residential projects are particularly favored because of their scale, interesting clients, often-challenging sites, and how they consistently offer ways to artistically weave form and function. Joe brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to every project and offers creative and analytical skills that transform ideas into built realities. With significant commercial experience working in large teams during his career, Joe particularly enjoys the intimacy of residential projects, seeing clients excited about and inspired by the work that we do together in teams that include our clients on a daily basis. Joe is also a glass artist and a sculptor in his spare time.

Lucy Sinkonnen

Lucy Sinkonnen

Office Assistant

Lucy’s love of connectivity with others ensues strong communication skills and the need to develop positive trusting relationships. With her experience as a licensed Minnesota and Wisconsin REALTOR® under the local Messina and Associates Real Estate brokerage with Madria Kuberra Homes, Lucy exemplified her business administration skills while creating many interpersonal relationships.  She also played collegiate softball while going for engineering. The transition into the architecture field was brought on by her love of homes and the observation of how people's lives are shaped by their everyday environments. Therefore, she is currently a Computer-Aided Design student in pursuit of an architectural license. Her painting business, Paintings by Lucy, takes up most of her free time. However, she still enjoys going on lake walks, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
