Island Restyle

In the beginning, there was a 22’ x 34’ cabin at the end of the gravel road. Then, came a completely impractical, but beautifully detailed pop-up, soon to lose its appeal. Function over the fantastical started a complete reorganization of the cabin and its outbuildings, searching for a “Welcome Home”. A timber columned porch wrapped old and new construction to create a new hierarchy of forms on the site, and a clear destination. Modernization without change of scale and with simplicity and neutral materials, made the everyday spaces of the home more functional, useful, and beautiful. Sleeping and the best of views now lie above the old cabin, under the eaves of the new unifying roof.
